Front cover is cartoon showing several Senators in the Senate Chamber, one of whom is Ex-President Andrew Johnson (who served one year in the U.S. Senate in 1875 after leaving the White House). One Senator is holding a paper imprinted: “The Confederate Soldiers”/ Parole of Honor/ For Gen. Francis M. Cockrell and the Senator from Missouri. Caption under cartoon states: Under Parole of Honor -- The Ex-officers of the Ex-Confederate Army in Congress: Senator Burnside: “I can imagine no contingency that would make him violate his parole... the people will never again sit idly by and allow treason to gather head.” Bottom corner of first page missing, with light staining to left corner, else very good. HARRIMAN, W. AVERELL (1891-1986). Diplomat (Ambassador to Russia under FDR). Gov. of N.Y., statesman. His book: America & Russia In a Changing World/ a half century of Personal Observation/ Intro. by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., 8vo, 218 pp., 1st ed., Doubleday, 1971. No d.j. Inscribed and signed on 2nd free blank end paper: “For Adrian Fisher, The best of colleagues, and my warm friend over the years. With gratitude, admiration and affection, Averell Harriman, Dec. ‘70. Harriman’s first trip to Russia was 1926 when he met Trotsky who became the first of many Soviet leaders with whom he would negotiate over the years. Fifteen years later he returned as head, with Lord Beaverbrook, of the Anglo-American Supply Mission three months after the Nazi attack on the Soviet Union. In 1943, President 11793.jpg (35734 bytes) Roosevelt named him Ambassador to Russia. He served in Russia during the years when wartime collaboration gave way to mistrust and the cold war. Progressive reform governor best known for Railroad regulation and putting an iron fence around the state capitol to keep the lobbyists out. ADS, 4to, as Attorney General being a motion to give precidence to the states action to revoke a Railroad Charter by information in the nature of a quo warranto. Boldly signed. Some smearing of ink in the body of the document which is totally legible and not touching or affecting signature. Humphrey", to Vera Clay of "Press Conference" T.V. program, giving dates he is available for appearance on the news program. Comes with senders carbon copy of letter to him dated Feb. 5, 1957, asking him to make a guest appearance on the program, as well as a "Memo for Prospective Guest File - Senator Hubert Humphrey, March 25, 1957", stating that Humphrey's office had stated that he could not be available on either of the dates he had committed to. RFK ASSASSINATION

(KENNEDY, ROBERT F.) (ASSASSINATION). Black bordered Acknowledgement of Sympathy card, 5.25” x 3.25”, imprinted as follows: “We are consoled to know that you share our sorrow/ and that the love he gave is returned in full measure/ Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after justice, for they shall be fulfilled. Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God. MatthewV:3. Ethel Kennedy”. Comes with RFK official prayer card as was used both at his funeral and also sent out by Mrs. Kennedy following his assassination. The prayer card is 5.25” x 3.25” with a black & white photo of RFK on recto and 11824.jpg (25375 bytes) prayer on verso: “Robert Francis Kennedy/ Nov. 20, 1925 - June 6, 1968/ Dear God, please take care of him who tried to take care of yours...” Also contains excerpts of RFK’s extemporaneous remarks on the death of Martin Luther King, in part: “....What we need in the 11824_2.jpg (43614 bytes) United States...is love and wisdom and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our own country, whether they be white or black...” Comes with original black bordered mailing envelope which has Ethel Kennedy’s printed franking signature. After war, went to Warsaw and formed coalition ministry in which he was Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Extremely fine 3.5” x 5.5” vintage half-bust photo of him boldly inscribed and signed in top blank portion: “To Mrs. John J. Walter, in kind remembrance, I.J. Paderewski”.
